3 Tips To DOMINATE Networking

Whether you’re getting ready for your first networking event or you’re a seasoned networker, it’s important to always remember the purpose of networking. It’s all about relationship building, tapping into the resources and the people that could help your business be at its best, and connecting with others that have similar passions. Being focused in business is important, but you better especially be focused on why you’re about to go spend an hour or longer in a room full of random people. Here’s my three tips to help you dominate the room.

#1 - DITCH THE SALES PITCH

Networking events are not the time to drop the pitch. No one likes the asshole that pitches from the moment he walks in the door to the moment he leaves the building. It’s all about relationships and getting to know others who are like-minded. Keep it casual, informal, and really spend time getting to know the people and what they’re about. Remember, two ears, one mouth. This is a time to show your personality. The goal is to make people like you, plain and simple.

#2 - SHARE YOUR PASSION

Sharing passions connect people. When you share your passion and why you do what you do, it attracts people to you. Passion is irresistible. When you’re genuine, honest, and transparent, your passion shines through. Passion becomes contagious, and people will want to connect with you and be a part of what you’re doing. Especially if your target client has the same passions as you.

#3 - REMEMBER TO FOLLOW UP

One of the biggest mistakes that people make is in the follow-up. In order to cement connections you make at events, don’t forget to connect with information. It might be an email, a phone number, or heck, nowadays, even social media. Follow ’em on Twitter or Instagram. You never know where the connection may go. Make contact with the person within the next 24 to 48 hours. Don’t let fear keep you from making those connections. Don’t be afraid to add people on social media while at live events so that you can extend your networking online. One of my favorite ways of connecting is to make an Instagram story and give the person a shout-out. Networking is a good social exercise. It keeps you sharp, helps you grow your brand. Business handshakes still mean a lot. Especially as we come out of COVID, more and more events are going to begin to open up.

So get out there, use these three steps, and start networking.
